Adding Custom Controls
Includes a video tutorial to bringing your own control content into Trustero
Trustero supports multiple methods for adding custom controls into an account. Controls can be created individually, uploaded in bulk using a CSV template, or imported directly from supported GRC platforms such as Archer and Anecdotes.

Accessing the Add Controls Options
To begin adding controls:

Navigate to the Controls index page.

Select Add Controls in the upper-right corner.
The following options are available:

Upload Spreadsheet — bulk upload controls using a CSV file

Add Custom Control — create a single control manually
-
Replace Your Controls — replace the existing control set in bulk (admin permissions required)
Adding a Single Custom Control
A custom control can be created by manually entering control details into the provided fields.
To add a custom control:

From the Controls index page, select Add Controls.

Choose Add Custom Control.

Enter the required control information, including:

Control ID
-
Control Name
-
Objective
-
-
Connect the relevant policy, if applicable.
-
Select the associated framework (for example, SOC 2).

After selecting a framework, choose the related framework requirements for the control.

Select Add Control to save the new control.
Once submitted, the control is added to the Controls index page and is available for evidence collection and testing.
Important Notes
-
The Control ID must be unique.
-
Required fields must be completed before submission.
Uploading Controls in Bulk Using CSV
For organizations managing multiple controls or existing spreadsheet-based control inventories, controls can be uploaded in bulk using a CSV template.
To upload controls in bulk:

Navigate to the Controls index page.

Select Add Controls.
-
Choose Upload Spreadsheet.

Download the CSV template or modify an existing spreadsheet using the displayed CSV input requirements.

Complete the required fields within the spreadsheet.

Upload the completed CSV file.

Select Confirm.
If formatting or validation issues are detected, detailed error messages are displayed with guidance for correcting the file before resubmission.
Once successfully submitted, the uploaded controls appear in the Controls index page and are ready for evidence collection and testing.
CSV Upload Requirements
When preparing a CSV upload:

A unique Control ID is required for each control.

All bolded required fields in the template must be completed.
-
CSV formatting must match the provided template requirements exactly.
Using the downloadable template is recommended to ensure proper formatting and successful import.
