How to find anything in the Trustero platform quickly and easily
Trustero provides two powerful ways to find information:
- Keyword Search – search directly within index pages for exact matches in metadata or document content.
- Semantic Search via Trustero Intelligence (TI) – ask natural language questions in the chatbot to find results based on meaning, not just exact words.
Together, these tools help you locate the right control, policy, evidence or other items quickly and efficiently.
Keyword Search (In-Page Search)
Keyword Search is available on index pages such as Controls, Policies, and Evidence, as well as other items (e.g., Vendors, Examine & Test).
Where You Can Search
- Metadata Search – search across fields like control ID, policy name, or evidence metadata.
- Content Search – for controls, policies, and evidence, you can search within the text of linked documents (for policies and evidence) or other fields that aren’t on the index page (e.g., control test procedures).
Basic Keyword Search
Type a word or phrase into the search bar on an index page. Results will update automatically to show items that match.
- Example: Searching for “MFA” on the Controls index will return all controls with “MFA” in their objective, ID, or related content.
Advanced Search
Keyword search supports three modes to refine results:
- Include Any
- Finds items that match any of the words you enter.
-
- Example: “encryption logging” returns items with either “encryption” or “logging.”
- Example: “encryption logging” returns items with either “encryption” or “logging.”
- Include All
- Only returns items that contain all of the words you enter.
-
- Example: “multi-factor authentication” requires all three words to be present.
- Example: “multi-factor authentication” requires all three words to be present.
- Exclude All
- Filters out items that contain specific terms.
-
- Example: Searching for “logging” with exclude all: error returns items with “logging” but not “error.”
- Example: Searching for “logging” with exclude all: error returns items with “logging” but not “error.”
Tips for Keyword Search
- Use Include All to narrow down large result sets.
- Use Exclude All to remove noise (e.g., outdated policies or irrelevant evidence).
- Combine metadata and content search to cover both high-level information and document details.
- Know where to search: search for policy content on the policies page, control content on the controls page, etc. If you are looking for details on evidence and do your search on the vendors page, you will not find what you’re looking for.
Semantic Search (Trustero Intelligence)
Keyword Search finds exact matches, but sometimes you need answers that go beyond keywords. Trustero Intelligence (TI) uses semantic search and AI to help you get results based on meaning.
How to Use TI
Open Trustero Intelligence and type your question in natural language.
- Example: “Which controls relate to SOC 2 CC6.6?”
- Example: “Show me policies that mention vendor risk management.”
TI interprets your question, searches across indexed data, and provides an answer with relevant context.
When to Use TI vs. Keyword Search
- Use Keyword Search when you know exactly what you’re looking for (a control ID, a phrase in a policy, or a keyword in evidence).
- Use TI when you want broader insight, relationships, or answers that depend on meaning (e.g., “What controls mitigate phishing risk?”).
Summary
- Keyword Search helps you find items quickly on index pages, with exact match modes (include any, include all, exclude all).
- Content Search extends keyword search into documents like policies and evidence.
- Trustero Intelligence (TI) provides semantic, meaning-based search for natural language questions.
- Together, they give you both precision and insight, making it easy to locate and understand your GRC content.
